The project will replace the existing 8,000 square-foot Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Library located at 1505 N. Nebraska with a new 2-story, 26,244 square-foot library to provide additional program space to meet the needs of the Ybor City area. The new library will include a children's library on the first floor with special programming, circulating materials and a walkway connecting the nearby Washington Elementary School. In addition, there will be display spaces for African-American art, an African-American Library and a community room seating up to 350 persons.

This $7.8 million project is being funded through property taxes. The anticipated completion date is early 2015. The magnificent stone mural along the entrance wall titled, "Symbols of Mankind," created by local artist Joe Testa Secca, will be preserved and be installed as an integral part of the new library.
